| The day was
October 20, 03. Things were going on as usual for the
residents of Kelgin Irabgera, a remote hamlet in Deodurg
Taluk, Raichur District. The local school teacher who
was browsing through the day's copy of Deccan Herald,
a national daily almost screamed in delight. He rushed
to Baladandappa, a local farmer and told him that his
name was mentioned in the newspaper and that the stranger
from a foreign country who had visited his house some
months ago was in fact the new British High Commissioner
to India. The news spread like wild fire and suddenly
Baladandappa had become a hero. Every local newspaper
wanted to know more and they came in search of him.
